In todays world, more than 100 million animals are killed each year in the name of animal testing. Now as some might say that sacrifice is needed for the common good, it is safe to say that animal testing may be taking it over the top to get such test results for the common good. Animal testing has been a common practice for many years to get results and side effects for food, drugs, pesticides, beauty products, and just about everything one uses in an average day. But now, in the modern world where ethics and animals rights come into the light, the subject of animal testing has become quite a spectacle to be fought over. In an interesting way, the debate over animals questions the humanity of the people of the world, and how far they†¦show more content†¦This law was created to improve their well-being and also impose a greater responsibility on their owners, not allowing for any mistreatment or cruelty. However in recent years, organizations like PETA have been fighting to create more ethical treatment and environments for animals due to the many reports of animal abuse that still continues, even with the law pertaining. To begin, although with the recent animal welfare act and the many allegations from animal rights organizations, animals still go through painful tests and procedures. For example, the eye irritancy test allows for the experimenter to spay a product in a rabbits eye (preferably rabbits due to their large eyes) and observe what happens. This test can last up to 18 days no matter the amount of anguish the subject goes through to create a better experiment without any outside variables interfering. During this test, the rabbits eyes are clipped open to allow for the chemical to properly soak in without interference. Along with this, the reactions can include ulcers, bleeding, inflamed irises, and even blindness (Product Testing on Animals Is Cruel and Unnecessary 5).
